Harvester Automation for Metadata Search Web Application: Methodologies
The Metadata Search Web Application is a service being developed by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) as a means to provide a search tool geared for scientists to access NCAR-created digital assets. The Search Application is split between two main services: Harvester and Search services. Each service contributes to an information chain that brings users the most relevant and recently updated XML metadata. During the 2021 SIParCS program, we made improvements to the Harvester service to automate XML metadata updates. This presentation discusses concepts and techniques of how work was conducted over this summer, with topics ranging from Agile Scrum to Pair Programming to Clean Code Principles. The usage of these software engineering methodologies on the harvester automation work will serve as a testament to their effectiveness on programming projects.
