Optimizing HPC for Earth systems science
Welcome to ASAP, the Application Scalability and Performance Group at NSF NCAR.
Our mission is to optimize high-powered computing (HPC) for the Earth systems science community. We work to reduce the time to discovery by increasing compute efficiency and reducing data volume.
We are proud to leverage HPC to accelerate the delivery of results to researchers and enable breakthrough Earth systems science.
What we do
The ASAP group has a talent for reducing computational limitations. Our research helps make computing for Earth systems science more effective and energy-efficient.
We perform a detailed performance analysis to understand which sections of the code are the most expensive to run. Once we identify these areas, we modify the underperforming code sections to increase their efficiency. Previous work by ASAP has led to greater than 100x speedup versus the unmodified version of the code.
