Site Survey for Large Solar Coronagraph
Space weather generated by the Sun's processes has the potential to damage all kinds of infrastructure in our technologically dependent world. In order to be better prepared for potentially hazardous space weather events we need to find sites where we can look at the Sun with a solar coronagraph. The biggest factors in considering what sites are the best for a coronagraph are the sky brightness and seeing ability. Thankfully, NASA's AERONET provides sky brightness data on hundreds of sites around the world that can be analysed to find the sites with the darkest skies. Once these sites have been identified we can begin setting up the coronagraphs and predicting space weather.
