Final SIParCS presentations wrap up an exciting and productive summer

The 2024 Summer Internships in Parallel Computational Science (SIParCS) program is heading toward its grand finale: the 16 participants will deliver their final presentations on Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday July 31, followed by a poster symposium on Thursday, August 1.
The final presentations will take place in the Mesa Lab Main Seminar Room from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm MDT on both days. View the schedule or explore the projects' full technical descriptions.
Presentations are open to the general public via live webcast. The students' guests are welcome to attend in-person—this includes staff, mentors, professors, family, and friends.
Finally, the poster symposium, the culminating event for the summer, will take place on Thursday, August 1. Approximately 75 interns from summer internship programs across NSF NCAR will share their research with mentors, staff, scientists, and the general public. They will deliver short pitches to explain their posters and answer follow-up questions.
The Poster Symposium Open Viewing Session will take place on Thursday, August 1 at Center Green Auditorium from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm MDT. This event is open to the public.
The 2024 SIParCS program is sponsored by the Computational and Information Systems Lab (CISL) at NSF NCAR. SIParCS commenced on Monday, May 20, and will conclude on Friday, August 2.
During these stimulating 11 weeks, the college students—both undergraduates and graduates—have gained deep technical experience by implementing projects in their areas of interest, guided by distinguished CISL mentors.
Social activities are integrated into SIParCS to make it a holistic program, with interns enjoying excursions such as a hike, pride parade, Fourth of July picnic, and ice cream social. "The activities just make it fun," said Eva Sosoo, intern for the CISL Outreach, Diversity, and Education (CODE) group.
"We wish the best of luck to the 2024 SIParCS interns as they head first toward their final presentations, and then back into their studies, with newfound experience and confidence," said Virginia Do, SIParCS program coordinator.
